Prodrift Round 3 Fermoy 2012

Last weekend saw Prodrift hit its local track, Fermoy. This is always one of my favourite rounds. One reason is that its always an exciting round. Another is that its less than 15 miles from my house.

The track layout was very fast with 9 clipping points. Yes I did say 9. This was the first event of the year where we got decent track access. We had 2 boxes on track we could use. This is always great for some long smooth pans.

Prodrift Round 2 Punchestown 2012

The weekend just gone has seen two major events happen in Punchestown, Ireland. Firstly Prodrift round 2, secondly sun shine. We don’t get sunshine here all too often. Temperatures even hit a high of 27°C (80°F)! Now to folks in the US that may not seem very high but last week our high was 15°C (59°F). These two factors resulted in some great drifting and lots of sun burn.

Here is a nice little shot of Paul McCarthy showing how sunny it was and also how good an E36 M3 engine looks with no air box.

Prodrift Round 1 Ennis 2012

This weekend saw the start of the Prodrift 2012 5 round season. I headed to Clare Marts in Ennis to a custom built track for round 1. Saturday started off with over 70 cars for the amateur and semi pro groups.

Adrian Walsh
Adrian Walsh, a former pro who hasn’t competed in an event in a few years was back with his SR20 AE86. This is one well setup car with a more than capable driver. He spent the day making everyone wonder why he ever stopped competing.

Prodrift Round 4 Mondello 2011

This weekend was all about the big entry. Flat in 4th, big clutch kick entry to a tight right handed hair pin to a wide left hander up a hill. Mondello running clockwise was always going to be spectacular. The 2 downsides were the weather and the media access. It was raining, but as its Ireland that’s no surprise at all really. The track was slippery and for an entry speed of 130kpm getting to the right speed for the hair pin wasn’t all too easy. There was a few off’s but nothing like I was expecting. The media access was simply down to the track layout. The photos may not be the best or the most dynamic you might expect but for anyone that was there the track layout more than made up for it.

Just check out the sticker on the boot lid of Michael Swans car! That kind of sums up the whole weekend.
